The completed works consisted of stripping 2.2 hectares of peat, some depths of which up to 10m in places, site prepared ready for the installation of the liner and geotextile. A soil/Bentonite mix which was batched on site and placed. Granular material was crushed and screened on site for use as the drainage layer. Groundwater collection and drainage systems were installed along with a series of leachate drainage, collection and monitoring systems were constructed to transfer leachate to the leachate treatment plant.
Two buildings were also constructed to run the waste management facility, a waste handling building and a household recycling building and office accommodation.
